Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Architecture is a five year college degree intended for people who wish to pursue a career in Architecture. Architectural education provides students with knowledge and skills in planning, designing and constructing buildings taking into account the principles of utility, strength and aesthetics.


Recommended Senior High School Strand

Students who want to pursue a degree in Architecture are encouraged to take the Accountancy, Business and Management strand. This strand provides the basic concepts of business and financial management, and corporate operations that will be helpful for college.

Admission Requirements

Qualifications

  • The student must be a high school graduate.
However, if they were not able to graduate high school, they may opt to take the Alternative Learning System (ALS)

and pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) to qualify for college; the availability of courses for PEPT passers depend on the university.

  • The students must pass the College Admissions Test of the university.

Program Outcome

Graduates of Architecture are expected to be able to:

  • Keep up with the developments in the architectural field
  • Create architectural solutions through the use of history, theory, structural concepts, and professional practice
  • Successfully prepare contract documents, technical reports, and other necessary legal documents needed in architectural procedures
  • Use different information and communication technology media to create architectural solutions and presentation
  • Apply research methods in handling architectural problems
  • Involve oneself in managing construction works and building administration

    On-The-Job Training/Internship

    During the fourth year of the program, students are required to attend an On the Job Training (OJT) in any architectural firm.


    Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in an actual work setting. Usually, universities require them to submit a written report on their tasks, learning experiences, and hours rendered. Their work performance will also be evaluated by their immediate managers and will be submitted to their respective OJT coordinator. The number of hours required may differ in each university.


    Board Exam

    To become a Licensed Architect in the Philippines, a graduate of BS in Architecture needs to pass the Architectural Licensure Examination (ALE). The examination is conducted by the Board of Architecture under the supervision of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC). The ALE takes place every January of the year.


    Career Opportunities

    Graduates of Architecture may pursue a career path in any architectural firms and apply as a Junior Architect, Junior Design Architect, Computer-Aided Design Architect (CAD), Computer-Aided Design and Draft (Architect), Building Surveyors, Architectural Project Manager, Architectural Technologists, or Building Conservation Officer.
