Microsoft is combining its Bing search engine with the ChatGPT chatbot from OpenAI to provide more human conversational answers. An early version of the experience recently leaked onto the web, but now anyone can request access to the new Bing before it’s available to the public.
However, since the ChatGPT integration is still in the final testing face, Microsoft is limiting access to a select group of users. If you want to be among the first people to try the new Bing-powered by this new AI technology, you will need to sign up and wait for the confirmation invitation. (As of March 15, 2023, the wait time has been removed, and you should receive access to the AI almost immediately.)
This guide will teach you the steps to sign up to get early access to the new Bing Chat experience powered by ChatGPT AI.
Get access ChatGPT AI on Bing
To get access Bing with ChatGPT preview, use these steps:
Open Microsoft Edge (recommended).
Click the Sign-in button in the top-right.
Confirm your Microsoft account credentials.
Click the “Join the waitlist” button.
(Optional) Configure Microsoft Edge as your default browser by going to
edge://settings/defaultBrowserand click the Make default button.(Optional) Configure Bing as your default search engine using the same Microsoft account by going to
edge://settings/searchand selecting “Bing” from the “Search engine use in the address bar” setting.(Optional) Install the Microsoft Bing app on your phone using the same Microsoft account.
Once you complete the steps, you will receive an email confirming access to the new Bing Chat experience.
In the early days, you had to wait about a week to receive access, but the wait time has now been removed, and after signing up, you should get access almost immediately.
The optional steps are not required, but according to Microsoft, they are recommended to receive early access to the AI version of the search engine before anyone else. After you have full access to the new search, you can install Bing AI as an app on Windows 11.
Get started using Bing AI with ChatGPT
Once you are confirmed to access the new Bing AI, the steps to use the chatbot are straightforward:
Open Bing on Microsoft Edge.
Type the questions in the new search box and press Enter.
Click the “Chat” option below the search box to access the chatbot. (The option is also available from the main Bing.com page.)
Type your question as you would normally ask another person. (The AI is context-aware, so your previous conversation will carry over.)
Once you have an answer, you can ask follow-up questions since it knows the context.
It’s that simple, but you have to remember that the AI is still in preview, which means that there are some limitations. For example, you can start a conversation, but you can only ask up to 15 queries per session, and you can only have 150 sessions per day.
Update March 15, 2023: Microsoft has removed the waiting time when signing up to access the preview of the new Bing. Now, you can sign up and get access to the chatbot immediately.
Update May 4, 2023: The new Bing Chat experience is now open for everyone as a public preview. Although you no longer need to sign up to join the waitlist, you still have to sign in with your Microsoft account to access the experience.
