Hunt Showdown Roadmap For 2024: Update Schedule & Content Details

During a recent developer insight, we were given an outline of what to expect in 2024 in Hunt Showdown when it comes to new content, updates, platform changes, and much more. Needless to say, there are quite a few changes yet to come, so let's break down each of them below:

Hunt Showdown 2024 Events

"Tide of Desolation" was the final in the trilogy of events to come in the tail-end of 2023. However, the developers have made it clear that more is on the way thanks to the positive response to these events. One that was noted during the developer insight was the fiery wildcard map conditions (where sections of the map are on fire) are said to return with some adjustments as well as a new map condition being developed.

Hunt Showdown Game Feature Updates in2024

Plenty of new features and updates are coming to Hunt Showdown, with some already implemented in the game as we closed out 2023. This year we expect to see more changes to come such as increased hunter slots, a prestige system rework, more balanced challenge books, and an overhaul of the trait system.

A gradual rollout of the ability to inspect weapons will also be made available throughout 2024, as it's been a highly demanded feature by many players. The highlight of the game feature updates is undoubtedly the new map that has been announced for 2024, and while we don't know much about this map just yet, we expect it to be one of the most advanced and intricate of all the maps so far (more on why below).

Hunt Showdown Cryengine Upgrade in 2024

In an exciting development, Crytek is enhancing Hunt to operate on CryEngine 5.11, slated for an early 2024 release in April. The forthcoming update will introduce a fresh map featuring a new biome, demonstrating the enhanced graphical features brought about by the engine upgrade. Notably, this upgrade encompasses DirectX 12, FSR 2.1.2, and HDR technologies. However, it comes with the trade-off that the game's minimum specifications will see an increase from the current specifications outlined on the official Steam Page.

With this news also comes the unfortunate downside that Hunt Showdown will no longer be supported on previous-gen consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) as soon as the upgrade is launched around April of 2024. Thankfully, a free upgrade path will be available for players migrating to newer consoles, and accounts will be fully carried over with all your collected items, tokens, traits, etc., to new consoles.

The engine upgrade will also introduce a brand new UI overhaul that places a strong emphasis on navigation and readability for both mouse and keyboard as well as gamepad controller users. On the topic of controllers, the devs have also announced an enhancement of gamepad support to make controller play easier for console players.

Hunt Showdown Backend Network Improvements for 2024

Last but not least, some backend improvements will be made to the game as they migrate over to the latest version of CryEngine, and it aims to remove downtime for updates and prevent regional outages from spilling over to multiple servers by moving to a decentralized backend network. This will also provide a more optimized response time for certain interactions such as inventory and bloodlines, whether in-game or in the main menu.

They are also upgrading their networking layer to remove common issues such as rubber banding world positions and bullet path and damage tag delays in-game, which has been a common pain point raised by many players over the years. Matchmaking will also be refactored in the new engine update as well as team voice chat being reworked for a better-balanced and less toxic gameplay experience.

On the topic of toxic gameplay elements, the developers have finally banned the use of ReShade, leading to a less toxic environment where some players could easily make out enemies from a distance with it active. The devs have also noted that they have increased their focus on analysis regarding player reporting and even employed key hires to focus on uncovering exploits and cheaters to create a more balanced system over the next year.

So there you have it, everything we know so far regarding the roadmap for 2024 in Hunt Showdown. Of course, as more information is released for new features or news surrounding the CryEngine update, we will be sure to update this article accordingly, so be sure to check back soon, good luck to all our fellow hunters in 2024.
