Note also that you can click on changelog to see what’s new with this version
Manually download update file
Go on manage Jenkins and select prepare for shutdown to let Jenkins perform a clean stop of every task ( stop every new build) Once done we can proceed to next step Click on download to download the jenkins.war file
generally it’s stored under Jenkins home path C:\Program Files\Jenkins
Linux/Unix
this is located under this directory by default /usr/share/jenkins
For this example I was using a Windows machine I tried by reflex to backup previous version file by renaming it Get an issue saying Java is already using it,we have to stop Jenkins before Once stopped we can rename old file without any problem and paste the new Jenkins war file

Connect to your Jenkins interface

To upgrade Jenkins without losing your data, download the latest jenkins.war file, copy it to /opt/bitnami/jenkins directory and restart Jenkins. It is recommended to create a backup of the previous jenkins.
There is no way to update the Jenkins version via the Jenkins CLI. If you installed Jenkins as a standalone WAR file, all you need to do to upgrade it from the command line is to download the new Jenkins WAR file and replace your current WAR file, then restart Jenkins.
Inside Jenkins: Manage Jenkins → Manage Plugins → There is a tab called Advanced and on that page there is an option to upload a plugin (the extension of the file must be hpi).
To do this, simply login to the network admin dashboard and go to the “Plugins” section. From there, you can select which plugins you want to update and click on the “Bulk Actions” dropdown menu to choose the “Update” option. This will update all of the selected plugins to the latest version.
The simplest and most common way of installing plugins is through the Manage Jenkins > Plugins view, available to administrators of a Jenkins environment. Most plugins can be installed and used immediately by checking the box adjacent to the plugin and clicking Install without restart.
If you run Jenkins with java -jar jenkins.war , Jenkins will be able to update itself from the Manage Jenkins page. This is the simplest way to do automatic upgrades.
The experimental plugin site is located at https://updates.jenkins.io/experimental/. Configure https://updates.jenkins.io/experimental/update-center.json in Jenkins to receive experimental releases (those with alpha or beta in their version numbers).
To identify your current version of Jenkins, you can do one of two things. From the Jenkins UI, from any screen, if you look at the bottom right corner, you'll see the current version of the Jenkins that you are running. Or, login to the Jenkins server, and use the jenkins-cli.
