Industrial engineers address the efficient utilization of resources to produce quality, as well as cost competitive goods and services in a healthy and efficient work environment. Industrial engineering covers a broad spectrum including production planning and control, manufacturing systems and processes, facilities design, human factors, occupational safety, quality control, systems reliability, and systems analysis and design with a strong emphasis on advanced computing.
The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering is a program for individuals who seek professional advancement in the industrial engineering field with studies in special fields such as operations research, statistics, production planning, simulation, inventory control, scheduling, industrial economics and human factors.
A minimum of 30 credits beyond a baccalaureate degree is required. A master's thesis or independent research is optional. Also, a 12-credit graduate certificate in Operations Productivity is available as a step toward this degree.
12 Core Credits are required with courses as Advanced Engineering Statistics, Engineering Cost and Production Economics, Systems Analysis and Simulation, Advanced Topics in Operations Research.
The range of possible specializations is broad. The following is a list of possible specializations:
- Quality and Reliability Engineering
- Cost Engineering
- Operations Research and Decision Sciences
- Human Factors/Ergonomics
- Production and Manufacturing Systems
- Service Systems
- Systems Analysis
The Undergraduate Industrial Engineering Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC of ABET).
