Mississippi State's Jaw-Dropping Comeback
In a thrilling game on December 13, 2025, Mississippi State University's basketball team, the Bulldogs, pulled off an incredible feat. They rallied from a massive 17-point deficit, their largest comeback since Coach Chris Jans took charge in the 2022-23 season. It was a true test of their resilience and skill.
Ja'Borri McGhee, a transfer from UAB, stole the show with a career-high 29 points. He was on fire, sinking 11 out of 16 shots from the field and an impressive 5 out of 7 from beyond the arc. Jayden Epps also contributed 20 points, and together, they led the Bulldogs to victory.
But here's where it gets controversial... With just over 2 minutes left, McGhee hit a clutch step-back three-pointer and followed it up with a layup, giving Mississippi State a 74-70 lead. Terrence Brown kept Utah in the game with two free throws, but Josh Hubbard's driving floater kept the Bulldogs ahead. And then, Shawn Jones Jr. delivered the knockout blow with a monstrous two-hand dunk, putting the game out of reach at 78-72 with just 59 seconds remaining.
Utah's Don McHenry put up a valiant effort, scoring 29 points, including five three-pointers. Terrence Brown added 22 points, but it wasn't enough to stop the Bulldogs' momentum.
And this is the part most people miss... Utah had built a comfortable lead, as much as 17 points, late in the first half. But the Bulldogs refused to give up. They went on a 23-point run, outscoring the Utes 23-24 in the next 24 minutes, to take a four-point lead with just over 9 minutes left in the game. It was an incredible turnaround.
Unfortunately, Mississippi State freshman Jamarion Davis-Fleming had to leave the game after a collision with Utah's Seydou Traore in the closing seconds. But the Bulldogs' spirit remained unshaken.
