Like previous years, IIT Madras has retained its position as the number 1 college under the overall category for the fifth consecutive year and the best engineering institute for the eighth consecutive year.
The top management college is IIM-Ahmedabad, however, three engineering colleges are under the top 10 B-school category. Under the best university category, IISc Bangalore has topped the university rankings followed by JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia. Three private universities have also made it to the list. Meanwhile, AIIMS Delhi too, retains the number one position under the medical colleges category.

“With 13 categories, this edition of NIRF is the largest in its scope to date,” says Anil Sahasrabuddhe, chairman, NBA. “We started NIRF with four categories. The aim was to improve the quality of higher education and help students make decisions. NIRF 2023: Jamia improves its position in Law, Architecture, Dental and Management
Jamia retained its 3rd position in Universities Category in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2023 for the second consecutive year. JMI not only maintained its rank in University Category but also improved its rank from 13th last year to 12th this year in Overall category. In law, JMI improved its position from 7th last year to 5th this year while in Architecture & Planning, JMI significantly improved its rank from 9th to 6th. The most significant achievement has been seen in Dental where JMI improved its rank from 16th last year to 10th this year. In Engineering, JMI maintained its position at 26th best engineering college in the country. In research, JMI is at 20th position in the country among all the institutes.

NIRF 2023: IIM Kashipur ranks among top 20 Indian Management Schools in India
“We are striving to improve the quality of teaching, learning and research at the institute. In NIRF ranking, we have moved up from 33rd rank in 2021 to 19th rank in 2023. IIT-Roorkee is the best college under architecture category
The category (subject domain) has been renamed this year from Architecture to Architecture and Planning. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee secured the first spot with a score of 83.21. At IIT Kanpur, a total of 109 IPRs filed in 2022 and 950 overall IPRs filed till date, along with 130 technologies being licensed to Industry partners, the Institute has a remarkable translational rate of 13.68%. The institute bagged the top spot in Innovation.

NIRF 2023: NLU Delhi VC congratulates students, teachers and staff on university bagging second spot
National Law University Delhi has retained the second spot in the law category in the 2023 NIRF rankings. This is the 6th time in a row that NLU Delhi has retained this spot. NLU Delhi VC, GS Bajpai, said, “I am extremely glad to see NLU Delhi as one of the top institutions in the country in the law category. Usually, achieving success is hard but maintaining it is harder. But the fact that NLU Delhi has maintained its rank for the 6th time in a row shows that NLU Delhi is truly deserving of the position”

In its debut year, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi bagged the top spot, with a score 83.16. Nine colleges/universities from Punjab have been featured in the overall top 100 list of NIRF 2023. NIRF 2023: BHU VC congratulates fraternity on rankings
Banaras Hindu University has been ranked the 5th best university in the country, as per the India Rankings 2023. BHU secured 65.85 points. In the overall category, the university secured the 11th rank. A total of 100 institutions were ranked in the category. Vice Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain congratulated the BHU fraternity and said, “We are constantly working to further improve the teaching and research ecosystem in the university. Besides, we are also putting a greater focus on ensuring a better campus life for students. I am confident that we are bound to touch newer skies of success and glory in the days to come.”

NIRF Ranking 2023 Live: IIT Gandhinagar improves its rank in the Research Institutions category

NIRF Ranking 2023 Live: Number of unique applicants increase
Number of unique applicants to India Rankings have increased from 2,426 in 2016 to 5,543 in 2023 whereas total number of applications for ranking in various categories have increased from 3,565 in 2016, to 8,686 in 2023 i.e. total increase of 3,117 (128.48% increase) in number of unique institutions and 5,121 (143.65% increase) in total number of applicants.

Three distinct additions of 2023 edition of India Rankings are as follows:
i) Introduction of a new subject namely Agriculture & Allied Sectors

A total number of 5,543 unique institutions participated in this year's ranking under “Overall”, category-specific and / or domain-specific rankings for India Rankings 2023. In all, 8,686 applications for ranking were made by these 5,543 unique institutions under various categories / domains including 2,478 in Overall Category, 1,314 in Engineering, and 2,746 in General Degree Colleges.

NIRF Ranking 2023 Live: What are the parameters used for evaluation of institutes?
Five broad categories of parameters identified in the NIRF and their weightage on scale of 10 are given below:
