Predicting the future of UX in 2030 (3)

It’s a little hard to predict the future of UX but I am curious to think about remembering the entire experience had from childhood. UX is going to be the most important element for today & the future for better living. As a designer in this fast-phased world, continuous learning is very essential to be relevant and sometimes we should unlearn to relearn skills to be more efficient designers. Designers need to look beyond the product design and explore other fields like psychology, marketing, engineering, hardware, art, history, architecture, or others. This helps to apply UX design principles, design thinking methods, and look at the problems from a different perspective. Good design becomes more essential to success and you will have a better understanding of how business works to succeed.

Last decade we saw significant innovations. It is clear that the expectations of AI are sky-high. We also find it a bit exciting. Designers are still in the safe zone because AI is still struggling with creativity. But we have to go to the box; you develop soft skills, learn to code, and deepen your business aspects.

Here are some thoughts and UX trends in 2030:

  • Databanks get created and it aggregates all personal and business data.
  • Design Regulations. The design will be enforced by governments and more design councils will be formed. This creates a more data-driven persuasive design, addictive interfaces, human emotional design, gamification, dark patterns to name a few.
  • New and different interfaces evolve with human-like interactions with personalized digital experiences.
  • Flying cars and speed transport.
  • AR, VR, Chat, Voice control interfaces will become huge.
  • Brain-Computer Interface — Communication link between a brain and an external device using neuroscience and physics.
  • Current poorly designed UX titles & jargon gets consolidated and new UX titles evolve. Eg: Organ Designer, Algorithm designer, Process designer, Design scientists, organization designers, Data design strategist, Happiness designer, etc.
  • Everyone is a designer, and this will be integrated across education and organization. Tools, templates, and defaults should help them to self-design experiences.
  • Designers will code. New design tools emerge which will be integrated with logic, algorithm, and code/design happens together integrated.
  • The transformation from User-Centered to Humanity Centered Design and more focus on human values, human behavior, human cultures, and context-sensitive emotional UX design.
  • Designers focus more on integrated business thinking and design — systems thinking.
  • Data governance, protection, and privacy are important UX design principles in this new world. Missing this means paying a big price — in reputation, customer loyalty, and ultimately the business itself.

I think we as UX designers, are fortunate that we have a chance to play a very significant role in shaping the world of that future. We should draw a line against unethical patterns and have influence in a world of aggressive market forces and data-driven design. Everything in this world should be focused on Human-centered design and designers play the role of guides and curators. However, we need to be prepared with new knowledge, new tools, and new skills to meet the needs of our users in 2030.
