Scholarships:

Various scholarships make it possible for a student to study abroad for free. But getting one is extremely difficult as the number of scholarships provided is less, but the total application number is huge. Some scholarships are only available for students from certain countries. While some are specialized funding schemes, while others are general scholarships. These are offered by government agencies, individual universities, charitable institutions, and a few private enterprises as well.

Types of expenses covered under scholarships are tuition fees and living expenses.

Some scholarships are given to certain groups. For example, the government of India awards a fellowship to SC students studying abroad whose family income is less than INR 6 lakh.

Scholarship offered by Universities:

If a student's profile is above 50% of the class medium, then some universities consider them for scholarships. There is also a need-based scholarship for students granted by universities for them to pursue higher studies.

Education Exchange Programs (EEPs):

In a bid to improve promote student exchange the quality of education and , the Indian government signed EEPs or MOUs with 54 countries around the world.

Apart from the counties mentioned in the list, eight other countries, namely China, Mexico, South Korea, Hungary, Commonwealth Scholarship (New Zealand), Italy, Israel, and Commonwealth Scholarship (UK), offers scholarships to Indian student for them to pursue higher education in those counties.

German Public Universities:

Irrespective of the nationality of the students, Public Universities in the German states (15 out of 16) charge no tuition fee to students apart from nominal registration or administrative charges. Even these charges are beneficial for students as these include student union membership and regional transport passes.

But getting admission is tough as a large number of students apply here because of the same low cost of tuition. Though the students have to bear the living cost.

Free study in Nordic countries:

Irrespective of the nationality, a student can study in Norway by paying NOK (300-600) per semester, and if they study in Finnish or Swedish, then the living and tuition fee isn't required for students outside the EU/EEA region. In Nordic countries such as Finland, Sweden, and Denmark, the PhD programs are fully funded.

Students can also earn while studying in Nordic countries:
They can work up to 20 hours a week at these jobs to meet their tuition and living expenses which are that big to begin with;
