This is pretty tricky to answer. First you havent specified which paper and believe me that makes a difference always. Then the GATE marks are normalized for the multi session papers. The minimum qualifying marks procedure itself uses the standard deviation marks of all students who appeared for that particular GATE Paper. Now each year the number of candidates will differ. So any projection will be estimated. You could use any of the rank predictors that are available after the GATE exam is over. They have a better chance of predicting as they are based on past data. On a positive note 35 is decent in an exam which has a pass percentage of 13%. However getting a very high GATE score is to be ruled out for those marks.

ME has the higest number of students in general as most PSUs ask for that so competition will be tough but not beatable. Check the past year question papers and study for topics that carry most weightage. AND practice Engg maths and english. 30 marks are for questions from these. So you could still do well. All the best!
